Danish Tattooing by Jon Nordstrøm

Being a craftsman myself I am fascinated by the element of craftsmanship in tattooing. When the story of Danish tattooing was published in a cool book by Jon Nordstrøm I felt it was natural that I would make a special binding for the book. Jon has been following the process with his camera as I work in my shop. Above you can see the result of this and watch some pictures from the process.

In short, the steps in the binding process were that the book was taken apart and sewn anew, the spine was glued and rounded, the edges cut and gilded with gold leaf or polished graphite, and leather headbands were added - red as blood. The binding is covered with blue leather - the classic tattoo colour. A used stencil, hand-drawn by Lanas with ink from 1930, has been stuck on front of the cover.

The books have been numbered consecutively from 1 to 10 and signed by Jon and myself. They can be purchased by clicking here.
